Pilot Knob Missionary Baptist Church has been a partner of the Kingston FRC for many years. Their love of community and our school has been shown in many different ways. Pilot Knob began a Back to School Block Party to assist local children with receiving the supplies that they needed to begin a successful school year. They have provided summer snack packs to families in a local neighborhood in need of love, not only providing a meal for the children, but also anyone who was hungry. They played games, provided story time and built relationships with the families living in the area of Bluegrass Homes. They have given our school staff gifts of kindness, had work days to improve the landscaping of our school and covered our building with prayer. The most significant work that has been done by this community partner is an after school program offered to students free of charge. PK Explorers began 5 years ago with 10 students and is now serving over 50 students and their families. Church members along with their pastor, Mr. Greg Lakes and his wife Dellena, volunteer their time on Tuesday afternoons. They provide a meal to students after school, play games, lead bible study, do crafts, science projects and music for over two hours. They request that families come in to the school to pick up their child, not just for safety reasons, but also so that they can begin to build a relationship with the families involved in PK Explorers. This program has provided stability, consistency and mentors to students who may otherwise be going home to an empty house after school. The collaboration that Pilot Knob has given the Kingston FRC has allowed many opportunities and blessings for families whose needs may have not otherwise been met. In my eyes, Pastors Greg and Dellena Lakes along with the congregation of Pilot Knob Missionary Baptist Church defines a FRYSC Best Partner. Thank you for considering them for this honor.
